Week 11/12

I decided to put my specimen in the front of the book. I want it to act like one of those type specimens that come with the Eye magazines, and others, where you can take it away. This was the idea when I made it all red, as I didn't want the formatting to look exactly like the book because that's just not the goal with a take away specimen. It usually looks quite different in order to stand out. Reflection Overall I'm happy with my book. If I did this all again though, there are a lot of things I'd do differently, re printing. I think I'm most proud of the specimen, maybe because this was all my design. It's somewhat hard to be proud of the book when most of the content wasn't mine, if that makes sense? The skills I've learnt though from this course have already come in handy for other modules, such as the web design one I'm currently doing. I feel confident with handling a lot of textual information, and knowing how to lay this out in a way that loo...

Week 10

Interim Critique - informational, functional, showing how many styles works - lean towards more functional type, don't like how the type is going off the edge - likes photos falling off the page - 'A' without photo works, photos are then a surprise when the folds are opened - likes the two aspects of the specimen (one side photographic, the other informational) - red + white works, good contrast - separate families and name them - annotation/captions are good - mood fits the goal - reference images? - find a woman modernist     - elaine lustig cohen     - remove saul bass     - put titles (maybe dates) underneath each photo https://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/cohen-elaine-lustig Photo by Ugo Mulas, courtesy of Elaine Lustig Cohen Maybe a better layout for the acumin styles? Quotes Colourcast:  $153 x2 copies printing only takes indesign file 150gsm paper, 66 pages 300gsm paper for cover Andrew on Cuba for binding: $60 for each copy

Week 9

Cover sprint Thumbnails Quick mock-ups The cover I liked the most after this class. Going to change the colour back to the bright red I had at the beginning because I didn't like the darker red printed. Also change the font family to show off the large family that Acumin has. This is almost the cover but the full title is going to be smaller and in the same typeface. Still need to change the spine width. Soft cover with perfect binding. Uncoated or coated paper, probably around 120-150gsm, maybe more. Usually I would go for uncoated but I actually like the feel of the SRA3 paper we printed our mockup on, and I think that was coated. It was quite smooth, and not glossy like a magazine. Perfect binding because of the price. In an ideal world, I'd like to learn Japanese stitch binding and do it myself. Soft cover because the inside of the book is reasonably traditional, and I don't want the book to get stuck in this category and I think a hard cover would make it feel too clas...
